Is it a good idea to buy a wedding dress online?

Sometimes it’s tempting to cruise sites and see deals. But be very careful! Often, the dresses you’ll see online are comparable in cost to the ones we have here locally. So make sure cost isn’t pushing your decision.

Next, think about ordering a dress you’ve never tried on before. You might like it in the photos, but once you get it? Do you have the time to go back and forth with mailing until you are completely happy?

Also, we hear stories from brides where the dress they ordered is not the one that they received. We’re asked to “fix” a dress ordered online. Often the quality is so poor that we can’t help.

Then think about missing out on this experience with your friends and family. There’s something special about picking out your dress and finding “the one” with them. Sharing that experience is something you can’t do online.

Also consider the service after the sale. Who will you go to for alterations? At Uptown Bride, we will sometimes take online dresses to alter, but it is infrequent because of the need to take care of our own brides and the quality of the dresses from online shops.

Who will you call if there’s a problem? There’s a peace of mind that comes with having someone just down the street you can take your problems to if one comes up.

Give us a shot. You’ll be surprised by what you’ll find at Uptown Bride.

Got my dress from here and I’m thrilled! It definitely was a special time and felt very individualized. Is probably more expensive than ordering dresses online but is worth the experience of being able to try them on beforehand and have a personal stylist help select options instead of being subject to looking through hundreds of dresses that are potentially not your style or price range and feeling overwhelmed. It made the experience good and not stressful like I thought it was going to be. They had several options in my price range. I am also happy that they have an experienced in house tailor 1 day a week but don’t forget that alterations cost several hundred ($300-$400) and the undergarments ($150-$200) cost a couple hundred as well. We ordered the dress in February/March and it is scheduled to be here late July/Early August. So excited!
