Wedding Planner: Pros and Cons

A wedding planner can help you create your dream wedding. But they also might not be what you need to plan your wedding. We’re breaking down the pros and cons to hiring a wedding planner:

Pro: Hiring a wedding planner can actually save you money. They are professionals, so they know the business. They can help you find the best vendors. If they have a good professional relationship with a certain vendor, they might be able to get you a discount for booking with them. They can also help you plan your wedding budget and stick to it.

Con: DIY can be more personal. Many couples like to do things themselves and add their own personal touch. Without a wedding planner, couples have more independence to choose their vendors and create things that they like.

Pro: A wedding planner can take away a lot of the stress. What if one of your vendors cancels at the last minute? A wedding planner is ready for these situations, and they can handle these things for you so that you don’t have to worry about it.

Con: A wedding planner might not see your vision. We’re all human, and it’s possible that you may not see eye-to-eye with your wedding planner. If you’re considering hiring a wedding planner, meet with them before and see if they’re a good fit for you. Consider if they’ll be able to pull off the wedding that you and your fiance are dreaming about.

Pro: Wedding planners can negotiate your contracts. A wedding planner can take care of the hassle of booking and scheduling your vendors. They can also make sure your contracts with vendors are fair and safe, and that you are getting a fair deal compared to other vendors.

Con: Wedding planners can do jobs that you might not need done. Especially when planning a smaller wedding, having a wedding planner might not be necessary. Some couples who have intimate ceremonies and backyard receptions have very little to plan, so a wedding planner wouldn’t offer much help.

Pro: Wedding planners can coordinate the day of the wedding. Most wedding planners offer day-of coordination services, which means that you will not have to stress out with details on your big day. They will make sure that the venue is open, the cake is delivered and the DJ is set up. A wedding planner can also keep the festivities on schedule by reminding vendors and guests when it is time to start the ceremony, cut the cake, announce the last dance, etc.

Con: Wedding planners can be an added expense. Hiring a wedding planner can save you money, but they can also charge more than they’ll save. If you have vendors that are already within your budget, a wedding planner can be one more service that you have to pay for.

Wedding planners aren’t for everyone, but they can also be helpful. If you’re thinking of hiring a wedding planner, make sure to consider the good and bad things, and your wedding will be just the way you want it!
